Movie Mogul's Mania

Movie Mania

Ivor (Jumbo) Llewellyn is in a bad mood. Grayce has put him on another diet, and he's spent the whole morning signing checks for Grayce's relations' enormous weekly salary. After his meager lunch, he needs to review the last six months of the business and bill the publicity department's bills against the movie receipts. Six movies have been released in the last six months (May through October), and for each movie opening, the publicity department arranged for a stunt or story to advertise the film. The movies which opened were: "The Adventures of Anilese", "Enchantment", "The Galloping Ghost of Goldrush Gap", "The Legend of the Labyrinth", "Nine Nights in Naples", and "Serendipity". The following actors: Drake Daventry, Jimmy Jackson, Peter Piper, Robert Richmond, Victor Valle, and Walter Wynn and actresses: Catrina Callas, Fleur Flynn, Mitzi Maynard, Olga Ormanova, Tatiana Twing and Zelda Zest (one of each) starred in these movies. And Jumbo's publicists thought of the following, in no particular order, to advertise the movies: The kidnapping of the leading lady's pet cheetah, the romantic elopement of the movie's stars, the leading man's daredevil motorcycle stunt, rumors that an ancient curse plagued the movie set, rumors of an actress' royal birth, and the stories that an actor's castle is haunted. Besides these pertinent facts, Llewellyn remembers only a few more tidbits.

From all of these clues, can you piece together which movie each actor and actress starred in, when the movie was released, and which publicity stunt/story advertised the movie's release, before Jumbo bolts to the commissary to wolf down several Sunset sundaes and a Bombshell banana split?

Clues

  1. The publicists loved the pairing of Walter and Fleur in their movie, because the rhyming last names made catchy headlines; their movie opened two months after "Nine Nights in Naples" but sometime before the film that was advertised with the ancient curse (the ad men were tickled pink over the curse, which was conceived when the script girl complained of her broken nail, and a props man stubbed his toe, the first day of production.)
  2. The following movies opened in this order over four months time: "The Adventures of Anilese", the film advertised with the rumors of the haunting of the leading actor's castle, the movie starring Drake Daventry, and the film featuring Tatiana Twing, who didn't act with Jimmy Jackson.
  3. Zelda Zest was afraid the publicity office wouldn't treat her precious 'Shiva' properly, so when they suggested the kidnapping stunt, she packed a bag of goodies for the cheetah. Zelda's movie premiered before the movie starring Peter Piper, which opened before "The Legend of the Labyrinth".
  4. "Serendipity" opened after Victor Valle's movie, but before the movie publicized by the elopement, which premiered two months before Mitzi Maynard's movie release.
  5. The movie advertised by rumors of the leading actress' royal birth preceded the premiere of Catrina Callas' debut performance by three months; Catrina's movie was followed sometime later by "The Galloping Ghost of Goldrush Gap", which starred either Jimmy Jackson or Robert Richmond.
  6. The movie publicized by the leading man's daredevil stunt followed one month after the premiere of "Enchantment", which didn't occur in May, and which was not advertised with the stars' elopement.

Use an X when you are sure that two fields do not match. Use a dot when you are sure that two fields do match. Click once to place an X. Click a second time to place a dot. Click a third time to clear the box.

Select marker color by clicking the colored radio buttons. You can use colored marks to indicate which clue provided a value, or to indicate a guess that might not be correct, or just because you like solving puzzles in teal.

Use the "Save" button to save a puzzle in progress. Use the "Load" button to reload the puzzle. This feature uses cookies - fear not, we aren't tracking you or stealing credit card numbers (we couldn't, even if we wanted to.) At the moment, only one puzzle may be saved at a time on each computer (unless using different browsers or accounts). There is no warning if you save over another puzzle, and no undo!

Use the "Current Solution Window" button to parse the grid for your solution. This feature simply looks for dots in the top set of rows and creates a list that you can copy and paste into your email for submission.

If you want to clear the grid and start over, just refresh the page. Note that there is a bug in IE6 (and possibly other browsers), so that if a color other than the default is selected, that color may appear to be selected after the reload, but the actual color used will be the default.
